Mexican Pottery - Your First Choice for Slow Cooking
Mexican pottery comes in all sorts of colors, sizes and glazes and there are a variety of uses for Mexican pottery, from flowerpots to cook ware. Mexican pottery is very popular and collected all over the world. Mexican pottery is earthenware made from clay, fired with low heat and glazed only on the inside. This low firing process produces a more delicate and fragile pot, so larger pots are not often seen.
Because of the
slow firing process, Mexican pottery cookware releases heat slowly and
evenly and is excellent for slow cooking meal such as beans, stews and
soups. The clay in the earthenware adds a specific flavor to Mexican
cooking that can not be reproduced in a metal pot, so traditionally
only clay has been used in Mexican pottery cookware. When using
Mexican pottery for cookware, make sure it is lead free and the
cookware is stamped with "safe for food". Before using Mexican
pottery, you must season it over a direct flame or a diffuser (never
use Mexican pottery on an electric stove) by filling the pot with
water and letting it boil and then pouring the water out.
